Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

There are several disadvantages to making use of fossil fuels such as restrictions in their resources, emission of environmental pollutants, and fluctuations in their price. These issues motivate energy policymakers to shift towards renewable energy systems. Renewable energy technologies have significant potential for the generation of heat, power, etc. There are different sources of renewable energies including hydro, biomass, solar, and wind. These sources of energy can be applied in different forms by employing proper technologies and systems. Aside from power generation, renewable energy technologies can are applicable for heating, cooling, desalination, and other energy-related purposes such as hydrogen production. Despite their benefits in terms of environment, there are some disadvantages, such as limited operating time and relatively low efficiency of some systems.
Different aspects of renewable energy technologies have been investigated in recent decades by scholars and researchers. Aside from technical aspects, which are mainly assessed in terms of energy and exergy efficiencies, the environmental and economic dimensions of these technologies are among the interests of researchers. Effects of various factors such as operating conditions, the configuration of the systems, characteristics of the components, etc on the mentioned aspects of renewable energy technologies have been considered in various research works. Aside from the evaluation of these systems, some techniques such as hybridization and energy recovery have been employed in these systems to enhance their performance. This special issue aims to publish valuable articles, both original and review, on the investigations of renewable energy technologies applied for energy production. The most interesting topics, but not limited to, are as follows:

  • Performance improvement of renewable energy technologies;
  • Environmental and economic analyses of renewable energy systems;
  • Effects of operating conditions on the performance of renewable energy systems;
  • Multigeneration renewable energy systems;
  • Hybrid renewable energy systems.

Keywords: Renewable Energy Systems, Hybrid Energy Systems, Energy Production, Sustainability

Open Submission: 25 March 2023

Deadline for submissions: 25 October 2023
